2024's top sport sedans
The automotive industry is dominated by SUVs in all sizes and price ranges, yet
some individuals still value the classic sedan's appearance as well as its
functionality and comfort. They can even be more comfortable to drive since
they have a lower ride height, are lighter, and are generally smaller in size.
Because of their innate qualities, sport sedans naturally focus more on
performance and are some of the greatest choices for sheer speed and enjoyment.
For your convenience, we've compiled a list of the segment's top performers of
the athletic dance in 2024 so you can use it as a reference when you go
shopping for one of your own.
Here, a diverse range of vehicles with gas, electric, and hybrid powertrains
are available. They will drive the front, rear, or all four wheels and feature
both manual and automatic gearboxes. Although some hatchbacks have technically
sneaked in, we still wanted to include them because of how similar they appear
and feel. Furthermore, you might pass up some of the greatest driving
opportunities if you don't include them. That's not what you would want, would
it?
One of the most obvious additions to this list is the Alfa Romeo Giulia, which we begin with. Although it's a cliché, driving an Italian sport sedan can be enjoyable, and it actually is. One of the most potent four-cylinder engines in the class, the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that powers the Giulia is standard. It produces 280 horsepower. Either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive is available, and an eight-speed transmission shifts smoothly and quickly.
The chassis feels
incredibly light, and the engine is punchy and torquey despite being a little
low on rpm. The automobile dives into curves with quick steering. Additionally,
we strongly advise obtaining a model equipped with the massive and amazing aluminum
paddle shifters, which greatly enhance the fun factor of clicking through
gears. Regarding the interior, while it is stylish, the infotainment system is
cumbersome, and the numerous buttons and knobs feel a touch flimsy.
At the top end,
there is, of course, the amazing Giulia Quadrifoglio. It is powered by a
2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 Ferrari-derived engine with 505 horsepower and
rear-wheel drive only. With plenty of grip, agile feel, and clear, chatty
steering, it's among the best driving vehicles on the planet. Obviously, with
all that power, it's really fast.
The Audi RS 3's insane turbo five-cylinder engine is without a doubt its crown jewel. Since it is limited to this particular trim of this particular model, it is incomprehensible that it exists in the modern world (at least in the U.S. line-up). However, that adds to the charm. The enormous power and amazing sound make up the other, considerably larger portion of the appeal. Its 369 pound-feet of torque and astounding 401 horsepower allow it to growl like no other. And all of that fits into a VW Golf-sized box.
Even if that were the only thing that made the RS 3 worthwhile, we would still love it. But as many an infomercial presenter has said, "But wait—there's more!" Its amazing suspension and lightning-fast dual-clutch transmission allow it to handle and shift like the amazing engine it is. Furthermore, it has all-wheel drive to ensure that every pony lands safely.
The RS 3 has a very muscular body with large box flares and menacing lighting. The interior design is futuristic-looking, sharp, and angular. Better handling and more luxurious interior materials would be good, but overall, this is a really distinctive and thrilling car, so these are minor quibbles.
The current edition of the compact luxury sport sedan benchmark is far superior than its predecessors. Furthermore, the 3 Series has a lot going for it. There are three different engine options: a turbocharged straight-six, a plug-in hybrid four-cylinder, and a turbocharged four-cylinder. It also has a fantastic interior with really plush upholstery and luxurious materials. Every iteration, of course, has a sporty and speedy chassis.
The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder basic 330i model produces 255 horsepower. It responds quickly and has excellent low-down torque. One of the best in the class, the eight-speed transmission is quick and seamless and can be found in all 3 Series models. The chassis is eager to corner, but the steering is somewhat numb. Also, the BMW rides quite nicely. The plug-in hybrid, which produces 288 horsepower and has an electric range of up to 22 miles, offers a little bit more power. It also doesn't cost that much more.
It goes without saying that while the four-cylinder models are reliable, the six-cylinder vehicles are more thrilling. 382 horsepower is produced by the turbocharged six-cylinder M340i. Upgrades to the brakes, suspension, and electronically controlled limited-slip differential are also included. Then there are the M3 versions, which boost power to 503 horsepower for the Competition variant and 473 horsepower for the standard model. Along with these modifications, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is rivaled by some outstanding sports sedans thanks to extra suspension, brake, and gearbox improvements. One of the few manual transmissions in the class is another feature of the standard M3. It is not inexpensive, with a base price that exceeds $70,000, but it is far less expensive than the Alfa.
Additionally, there's the M3 CS limited edition. 543 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque are the additional power increases. It is usually the toughest core of M3s and has even more chassis reinforcements. We think it's great.
